WASHINGTON – On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he is seeking out a new ambassador to Germany as current diplomat Richard Grenell is going to serve as an acting U.S. intelligence chief.
Before his departure to India, Trump announced that he shall be appointing an ambassador to Germany.
Last week, a senior administration official said that Grenell shall retain his ambassador role even with the national intelligence acting director position. His new role oversees the 17-agency U.S. intelligence community.
Grenell’s duration of tenure serving as the top intelligence official is uncertain.
On Sunday, Trump stated that five candidates are being considered for the role.
