ANKARA- On Thursday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said that approximately 250,000 migrants were fleeing Idlib in northwestern Syria towards Turkey. He also added that Ankara tried to prevent these migrants from crossing the border.
Turkey is now hosting up to 3.7 million Syrian refugees and this is the largest population of refugees globally. The new wave of migrants of Idlib follows last month’s bombardments of Russian and Syrian government forces in the region. In the area, a population of 3 million Syrians live in the last territory held by rebel swathes.
Tayyip Erdogan addressed a conference in the capital saying that 200,000 to 250,000 migrants were approaching Turkish borders and some measures are being tried to prevent them but it is difficult, as they’re humans too.
