Sources say U.S. will extend license for companies to continue business with Huawei
WASHINGTON – The Trump administration will soon issue a two-week extension of a license to allow U.S. companies to continue doing business with China’s Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, sources said.
The extension of two weeks is shorter than the previous 90-day extension and a longer extension period is in the works. It has not yet been finalized yet due to regulatory hurdles, one source stated.
After the addition of Huawei to an economic blacklist in May citing national security concerns, the U.S. Commerce Department has allowed it to buy some American-made goods in a move directed towards minimizing disruption for customers, many of which operate in rural American networks.
The extension will be announced on Monday, the sources said. A spokesman for Huawei, said the company does not comment on speculation. The Commerce Department has also declined to comment.
