LONDON – Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson plans to move the Parliament’s upper house that the House of Lords to York.
In the election for the lower house, the Conservatives led by Boris Johnson won most of the seats against the opposition Labour securing a large parliament majority.
To secure these gains, Johnson plans on ramping up investments in the north of England, suffering under heavy industry decline and austerity policies since the financial crisis.
The northern English city of York, founded by Romans and well-known for its large minster, is Johnson’s first choice for the impending move ahead of Birmingham.
The unelected House of Lords is principally considered to be a mechanism to revise and refine and has the power to block laws.
