LONDON- Prince Harry and wife Meghan have decided to take a step back from the senior roles in the British royal family to spend more time in North America. This announcement from Wednesday came as a surprise to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.
2019 was a turbulent year for the royals with their widening rift with the media and Prince Harry’s fall-out with elder brother Prince William.
The couple is hoping to work towards becoming financially independent and set up a new charity while continuing a few royal duties.
This decision comes after several months of reflection and internal discussion, the couple has decided to make the transition this year to carve out a progressive new role within the institution.
They decided to balance out their time between UK and North America, while continuing to honour their duty to the Queen, the Commonwealth and their patronages.
Details of this exciting next step shall be listed out after discussions of the move with the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William.
The announcement’s timing seems to have wrongfooted members of their family, including the Queen. Other family members were not consulted on the decision.
According to the Buckingham Palace, Harry and Meghan’s decisions were still at a nascent stage.
The couple has not spelt out their plans or where in North America they might live. Splitting time between UK and North America would allow the little family space to focus on the next chapter while raising Archie with an appreciation for the royal tradition he was born into.
