ISTANBUL – Four Turkish soldiers were killed and nine injured in intense shelling by the forces of the Syrian government in the northwestern region of Idlib on Monday.
Turkey retaliated to the shelling immediately destroying Idlib targets without elaborating on how they did so.
Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad’s forces made advances to Idlib with backing from Rissian airpower. On Friday, Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan said that a military operation shall be launched from Turkey lest the fight is halted.
Turkey already plays host to over 3.6 million Syrian refugees and they now fear a new incoming wave of migrants from Idlib. 12 military observation posts are put into place in the region and have been surrounded by the Syrian government forces.
The shelling was carried out against the reinforcement sent by Turkey to prevent clashes in Idlib.
