LONDON (UK) – Britain is trying to get money back after purchasing a few COVID-19 antibody tests to trial them and found out that none of the products worked reliably enough, according to a British health official.
Last week, British health minister Matt Hancock had said that Britain wanted to purchase 17.5 million antibody tests, subject to the tests working, but none of them has proven fit for purpose.
Kathy Hall who is the COVID-19 testing strategy’s Director at Department for Health stated that Britain bought some tests designed to see if someone with COVID-19 symptoms having been previously infected to establish if they worked.
When questioned if the tests were purchased on a provisional basis, Hall stated that they ordered the tests on the basis of the minimum volumes needed to get the samples so that we could test them.
They are working with companies to cancel orders and getting money back.
