SINGAPORE CITY (SINGAPORE) – Those visiting Universal Studios in the city will now have to undergo facial recognition scanners to enter the facility. Though this is the city state’s latest foray with technology, it has sparked concerns about privacy.
Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) where the facility is situated said the scanner will enable smooth access for guests.
“Facial recognition provides contactless verification of tickets and ticket holders, enabling our customers to enjoy our park experience in a more efficient and seamless manner,” RWS said in a statement.
Facial recognition has sparked worries about surveillance and how the data collected will be used.
Tech-savvy Singapore has roped in technology, including a scheme to have cameras on lamp-posts with facial recognition features.
Annual and season ticket holders of Universal Studios no longer need physical passes. Guests with day passes need a ticket to enter. But they can exit and re-enter with facial scanning.
RWS said it had put in place strict measures to protect customer data by storing it in encrypted servers.
