The UK government has unveiled its aspirations for the forthcoming AI Safety Summit, set to occur on November 1st and 2nd at Bletchley Park.
Secretary of State Michelle Donelan has initiated formal engagement in preparation for the summit. This effort includes discussions with countries and leading frontier AI organizations by Jonathan Black and Matt Clifford. They serve as the Prime Minister’s Representatives for the AI Safety Summit. This follows a recent roundtable hosted by Secretary Donelan, which involved a diverse range of civil society groups.
The AI Safety Summit aims to bring together influential nations, prominent technology organizations, academic institutions, and civil society. To guide swift national and international actions at the forefront of Artificial Intelligence (AI) development.
Addressing Risks and Promoting Safe AI
The primary focus of the summit will centre on assessing and mitigating risks posed by the most advanced AI systems. Particularly those associated with their potentially hazardous capabilities. One key area of concern involves the dissemination of information that could undermine biosecurity. Additionally, the summit will explore the ways in which safe AI can be harnessed for the greater public good. Enhancing people’s lives through applications such as life-saving medical technologies and safer transportation.
