Joe Biden started his address on the school shooting in Nashville with an ice cream joke, saying “I came down because I heard there was chocolate chip ice cream,” before discussing the shooting that claimed the lives of six people, including three children. Later, he described the Nashville attack as “sick” and “heartbreaking.” However, the joke’s shocking start had already caused massive outrage on various social media platforms.
After addressing the school shooting in Nashville , Biden then returned to the subject of ice cream, giving a shout-out to a representative from Jeni’s, an Ohio-based chain with shops across the country.
He praised the businesses represented in the room, including restaurants, architectural firms, hardware stores, and Jeni’s Ice Cream, which he described as “splendid.”
Mr. Biden continued, “If someone allowed me to take you upstairs, I could show you a whole freezer filled with Jeni’s chocolate chip ice cream.” He closed his eyes slightly, as if recalling the taste of it. Then, he said, “When you’ve been in public life as long as I have and people only know you for two things – chocolate chip ice cream and Ray-Bans sunglasses – it can seem pretty dull, but what the hell.”
Biden’s Re-Election Plans
ome critics argue that Mr. Biden’s lengthy talk about ice cream was an ill-timed attempt at humor, which they believe indicates that he may be too old to win a second term. However, others may view this as a minor misstep that is not indicative of his overall fitness for the presidency.
Mr. Biden, who is 78 years old, currently holds the record for the oldest-ever sitting US president and is expected to announce his re-election campaign as soon as next month.
If he completes a full second term in 2029, he would be 86 years old.
