DUBAI- On Wednesday, President Hassan Rouhani has responded, and will respond, to the U.S. assassination of Major-General Qassem Soleimani.
Soleimani was the Revolutionary Guards commander who was killed in a U.S. drone strike in Iraq in January.
Rouhani said the above after a Cabinet meeting that was broadcasted on state television.
Soleimani was instrumental in the expansion of Iran’s military influence in the Middle East as he was the operative who handles clandestine operations outside of Iran. The 62-year-old general was said to be the second-most powerful figure in Iran after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
“The Americans assassinated our great commander. We have responded to that terrorist act and will respond to it.”
