LONDON (UK) – There is no need to rebuild the squad in the transfer window, said Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp, who is confident of his players who gave the club’s first English top-flight title in three decades last season.
In spite of shattering records, the club was plagued by injuries and poor form this season, leaving them at sixth position in the table with 40 points from 25 games. They are 19 points behind leaders Manchester City.
Skipper Jordan Henderson is the latest player to be injured and he has been ruled out until April after undergoing groin surgery.
Knee problems will see central defenders Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez out of action for the rest of the campaign while Joel Matip has been ruled out until next season. Fabinho, Naby Keita and James Milner have been sidelined following muscle, ankle and hamstring injuries.
The sheer number of injuries prevented him from playing his strongest squad, said Klopp.
“I don’t think it is time for a massive rebuild like how I understand it, [which is] six or seven out, running contracts, but trying to get rid of them and bring in all the new faces,” Klopp said in a press briefing.
“The squad this year didn’t have the chance to play together one time really. I think it would make sense to have a look at that, but on top of that, of course, little readjustments will happen.”
