During a joint press conference in Jerusalem, Sunak expressed his pride in standing with Israel during its challenging times and welcomed an agreement allowing 20 lorries to transport aid into the Gaza Strip from Egypt. The British government is actively involved in international efforts to ensure the prompt entry of these trucks into Gaza, potentially by Friday.
Netanyahu also drew parallels between the current situation and the Second World War, highlighting the need for solidarity in the face of the ongoing conflict. He stressed that the world’s darkest hour required unity and continuous support to overcome the challenges and difficulties that lie ahead.
Furthermore, Sunak addressed the tragic incident at al-Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza City, expressing the shock felt by all and mourning the loss of innocent lives from various backgrounds. He also acknowledged that the Palestinian people are victims of Hamas and welcomed Israel‘s decision to open routes for humanitarian aid into Gaza. The UK pledged increased aid to the region to provide swift support to those in need.
Sunak assured Netanyahu that the UK recognized Israel’s efforts to minimize harm to civilians, and both countries committed to continued cooperation in securing the release of hostages, especially British nationals.
