Conor McGregor revealed he is already halfway to his goal of becoming a billionaire. The biggest star in UFC history has made a fortune both inside and outside the Octagon. In July 2021, he lost to Dustin Poirier and earned a reported $33 million (£26.6 million) from that fight.

But the cash he received from the sale of his whisky company, Proper Twelve, that same year dwarfed that sum. McGregor topped Forbes’ list of the highest-paid athletes thanks to the deal with Proximo Spirits, which reportedly reached a value of up to $600 million (£483 million).

Speaking about the achievement with UFC‘s Megan Olivi on their YouTube channel, Conor McGregor said, “It motivates me. Michael Jordan is at the top spot, obviously with the Jordan brand that took him there. He has amassed multiple billions, and I think he has made around 3.3 billion.”

McGregor then went on to give his true net worth, continuing: “I’m closing in on a billion now, I think I’m at about 650million all in I’ve made. I think they (Forbes) estimate that, I’d have to probably do my own little check of that.

“But I fancy my chances, I fancy my chances of getting up that list. It’s good to see, as you say that Forbes was a goal of mine to hit that, I got that and onwards we go.”

Having launched Proper Twelve in 2018, McGregor is estimated to have earned £120m from his majority stake when the company was sold three years later.
