G7 World leaders ratcheted up pressure Sunday on Russia for its war against Ukraine. Zelenskyy at the centre of a swirl of diplomacy on the final day of the G7 of rich-world democracies.
Zelenskyy’s in-person attendance at one of the world’s premier diplomatic gatherings is meant to galvanize attention on his nation’s 15-month fight against Russia. Even before he landed Saturday on a French plane, the G7 nations had unveiled a slew of new sanctions and other measures against Russia. Meant to punish Moscow and hamper its war-fighting abilities.
Ukraine is the overwhelming focus of the summit, but the leaders of Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Canada and Italy. As well as the European Union, are also working to address global worries over climate change, AI, poverty, economic instability and nuclear proliferation.
South Korea and Japan, two U.S. allies, continued their attempts on Sunday to strengthen their bonds. Which have frequently been harmed by lingering resentment over matters related to Japan’s horrific 1910–1945 colonisation of the Korean Peninsula. Fumio Kishida, the prime minister of Japan, and Yoon Suk Yeol, the president of South Korea, paid respects at a memorial to the victims of the atomic explosion in Korea on August 6, 1945. Many of whom were slave labourers.
Washington wants the two neighbours to stand together on a number of concerns. Including the increasing aggressiveness from China, North Korea, and Russia. Both countries are liberal democracies and are pillars of U.S. strength in the area.
Peace will come closer says Zelenskyy
As Ukraine gets ready for what is expected to be a significant effort to retake territory taken by Russia in the war that started in February of last year. Bolstering foreign backing is a top concern. Zelenskyy attendance at the G7 conference came just after the US permitted training on powerful fighter jets. Which is produced in the country, laying the framework for their ultimate transfer to Ukraine.

Jake Sullivan, the national security advisor for the US, stated that President Joe Biden and Zelenskyy would interact directly during the conference. In order to prepare Ukraine for receiving American-made F-16 fighter planes in the future. Moreover, Biden declared on Friday that he was in favour of training Ukrainian pilots on those aircraft.
After speaking with several leaders, including Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni, Zelenskyy said on his official Telegram channel. “It is necessary to improve (Ukraine’s) air defence capabilities, including the training of our pilots.”
