Cannes Festival 2023: Some of the eye-catching Red Carpet looks

The Cannes Festival 2023 kicked off on 16th May. The two-week-long event started with the premiere of Jeanne du Barry. Some of the greatest stars from the entertainment industry have graced the 76th edition of the Cannes Festival. While Cannes is all about movies, the festival merges with fashion at the Red Carpet.

We are curating some of the best looks of the Cannes Festival 2023. Watch out for this space as we keep updating the list.

Gigi Hadid

Gigi Hadi graced the red carpet in a custom Zac Posen ensemble. The gown features a beige strapless bodycon silhouette, a corseted bodice, a muted peplum hips, that flared into a fishtail cut with pleats on either side. She amped up the look with a Messika Jewellery diamond collar necklace, matching bracelet and two pairs of teardrop earrings. It’s interesting to note that her ensemble reminisces about her sister Bella’s iconic moment at Paris Fashion Week in 2018.

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman made her second appearance on the red carpet, to support her new film, ‘May December.’ She wore a Dior Haute Couture embroidered tulle Grand Gala gown, a recreation of the iconic ‘Junon’ dress by Monsieur Dior in 1949. The special recreation was done by Maria Grazia Chiuri. The remarkable feature of the attire would be the voluminous scallop skirt of ombré petals. The petals with ornate blue beadings resemble peacock feathers without their “eyes”. In fact, the original dress rests beautifully in The Costume Institute’s collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence hit the red carpet for the premiere of “Anatomie D’une Chute in a sleeveless, red, silk silhouette Dior gown. The custom couture dress featured a rounded bodice and flowing flared skirt. She paired the gown with a matching colour draped shrug, and a swirling diamond collar necklace. Interestingly the star simply slipped on a pair of black rubber flip-flops choosing comfort over style.

Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa made her red-carpet debut at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 wearing a black, one-shoulder Celine silhouette gown. There are asymmetrical cutouts across her chest and midriff and a sultry thigh-high slit down the side. She paired her black-tie version of the little black dress with diamond earrings from Tiffany’s, a matching bracelet, and strappy black sandals.

Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek made a statement at the Cannes Festival 2023 wearing a stunning dark purple dress by Alexander McQueen. The bodice flowed into a deep V-neck, a mermaid skirt that clung to her figure and ended in a short train. The sculptural winged ruffles details on her shoulders and there was a matching upturned ruffle at the knee. Hayek accessorised the look with a diamond necklace, matching diamond earrings and a diamond bracelet.

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman wore a strapless Dior gown on the red carpet for ‘The Zone Of Interest’ Cannes Film Festival 2023 premiere. The ombre sequins delicately fade from a pale to dark blue and are accented by a thin black belt at the waist. There is also an overlay of blue tulle placed over the skirt. She added a diamond and sapphire Chopard necklace to perfect the look.

Tang Wei

Tang Wei looked mesmerising in a white, pink and blue brocade scalloped trimmed gown from The Atelier Spring 2024 Bridal collection. The ballgown featured a scalloped bustline as well as a thigh-high slit – also lined with a scalloped hem. Though primarily white there are watercolour blue and pink swatches to enliven the look.

Didi Stone

Didi Stone walked the red carpet in an off-white gown with a silver corset with a knotted satin skirt. Lebanese-American designer Rami Kadi designed the outfit. Off-white asymmetric gown embroidered with crystals and blue beads in a linear pattern, featuring an overlapping satin duchess skirt.

Mona Zaki

Egyptian actor Mona Zaki made her Cannes debut in a gorgeous strapless Zuhair Murad creation with a ruched bodice and a billowing skirt. The gown came in two shades: dusty rose and a deep inky blue. Paintings of ships sailing in swirling waters added to the moody vibe of her gown. The iconic Bvlgari Serpenti – an ensemble of serpent motif choker, winding bracelet and earrings studded with diamonds gave her pastel look an edge, as its grey tinge in the front complemented her smoky make-up.

Elle Fanning

The fashion princess of Cannes appeared for the premiere of Jeanne du Barry in a cream and silver gown by Alexander McQueen. The bugle bead and crystal-encrusted creation with a sculptural, petal-adorned bodice and voluminous pale pink tulle form a ball gown. She accessorised it with Cartier jewellery and finished the look in a simple-knot bun.

Alessandra Ambrosio

Brazilian supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio graced the red carpet of the Cannes Festival 2023 in a scintillating dark plum-coloured gown designed by Elie Saab. The gown has an alluring hooded neckline that flows into a bold deep neckline. A series of linear patterns made of sequins extends from the shoulder to the end of the train. Pomellato High Jewellery completed her look.

Fan Bingbing

Fan arrived in a Christoper Bu ball gown with a sweeping train and a forest-inspired print with tropical graphics for the premiere of Jeanne du Barry. Rich embroidery displayed a jungle scene with tigers, leaves and tree bark across the voluminous skirt. Fan wore leaves in her hair in a chignon-style updo to complement her nature-inspired ensemble. She added emerald earrings to the look to highlight the green colour.

Aja Naomi King

Loreal Ambassador Aja Naomi King made her first appearance during the Cannes Festival 2023 in a pink and silver embellished Gaurav Gupta gown.  She was present for the screening of ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’.

Pia Wurtzbach

Miss Universe 2015, Pia Wurtzbach stunned everyone at the Cannes Festival 2023 in a shimmering, deep red Mark Bumgarner gown. The metallic evening gown featured a sculptural silhouette partnered with a minimal yet glam makeup and accessorized it with APM Monaco jewellery.
