The Little Mermaid Premiere: Here is what is happening

The Little Mermaid Premiere

Disney’s The Little Mermaid live-action remake made a world premiere on Monday. The feature film will hit the theatres on May 26.  The movie tells the story of a mermaid who decides to join the human world. Halle Bailey and the crew celebrate The Little Mermaid Premiere on a blue carpet in Los Angeles.

Halle Bailey was seen in a stunning silvery blue strapless gown inspired by seashells or a sea coral-inspired bodice. Charmingly, the dress’s hem appeared to be fashioned to mimic a mermaid tale. “This moment means everything to me, I’m so grateful to be here,” she said. “I just feel really honoured and I’m happy the day has finally come where we can all watch it.”

Halle Bailey stars as the titular character. Melissa McCarthy stars as Ursula, Jonah Hauer-King as Eric, Javier Barden as King Triton, and Jacob Tremblay voices Flounder. The remake of the 1989 Disney animated classic is directed by Rob Marshall with a screenplay by David Magee.

First Reactions:

Insider stated, “‘The Little Mermaid’ is filled with a few great performances from Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy, but it’s a mostly paint-by-numbers remake that’s isn’t as good as the animated masterpiece.”

Film critic Courtney Howard said that “‘The Little Mermaid’: Charming, but incredibly spotty. Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarthy & Javier Bardem put their heart & souls into a film that can’t escape its animated legacy. Best when it leans into campy bonkers, yet limits its fantasy elements for no reason.”

Producer and journalist Simon Thompson said “Endearing but uneven, ‘The Little Mermaid’ doesn’t deliver the magic of the animated classic but there are plenty of creative touches from Rob Marshall to float the audience’s boats. Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy are great. Daveed Diggs and Awkwafina provide solid comic relief.”

Zoe Rose Bryant from We Live Entertainment remarked, “‘The Little Mermaid’ is a live-action remake that retains the heart and soul of the story we know and love, and it’s elevated even further by a note-perfect star-making performance from Halle Bailey – she was born to be on the big screen, & she’s why this new take is worth watching.”

“Halle Bailey’s chemistry with Jonah Hauer-King is so infectious and natural and a huge highpoint for the film, while Melissa McCarthy devours every second of her screen time. The VFX aren’t always perfect, but FAR better than some subpar trailers would lead you to believe tbh,” she added.
