On Thursday, Rafael Nadal confirmed his resignation from the forthcoming Madrid Masters competition.
“The injury hasn’t healed, and I can’t do the necessary work to compete.” Nadal stated in a video posted to his official Instagram account.
Nadal has been out of play since the Australian Open in January due to a left hip ailment. As a result, the 22-time Grand Slam champion has dropped out of the ATP Top 10. Nadal withdrew from the Barcelona Open earlier this week.
On April 27, the Madrid Masters competition begins. Nadal is the most successful player, having won five titles.
Return not confirmed
Rafael Nadal was forced to withdraw from the 2023 Madrid Open. A tournament he had previously won five times. Fans and other professionals have been concerned about Nadal in recent weeks, so the Spaniard has issued a lengthy update on his social media pages.
Nadal was not afraid to admit that things were not going as planned. The 14-time Roland Garros champion stated that his recovery was taking longer than expected and that he did not want to miss the tournament he had already been forced to miss.
Nadal also confirmed his resignation from the 2023 Madrid Open, and to make matters worse, he was unable to please supporters by announcing when he will return because he does not know.
“This is the current situation. I also want to send a special greeting to all the fans of Madrid and Spanish because I will have missed the two tournaments that are played here at home. All I have left is to try to keep the right attitude all this time, try to give myself a chance to compete in some of the tournaments left of the dirt season and I have no choice but to work and be with the right mindset. A very strong hug to everyone and as soon as I have news I will inform you. Thank you!” He said.
