Manchester United midfielder Casemiro named as Brazil’s new captain. Succeeding Chelsea’s Thiago Silva.
Casemiro is an important part of the Brazilian national team over the years. Since his senior Brazil debut in 2011.
Casemiro has appeared in 69 appearances for Brazil, helping them win the Copa America in 2019.
Silva, on the other hand, has not formally announced his retirement from the national team. But Casemiro, 31, will have the honour of donning one of football’s most famous armbands.
Brazil’s encounter against Morocco is their first since being eliminated from the FIFA World Cup in 2022. The South American heavyweights were eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2022 quarter-finals after a spot shootout loss to Croatia.
Next match against Morocco
The upcoming match against Morocco will also be Brazil’s first since Tite stood down as national team manager. Following their exit from the FIFA World Cup.
Casemiro has been called up to the Brazil national team for their upcoming match against Morocco during the March international. And Casemiro will get Brazil’s captain armband. Casemiro is regarded as a leader and a role model for young players.
It is not a new thing for Casemiro to wear the captain’s armband on Brazil’s national football team. The defensive midfielder has previously captained Brazil 11 times during Tite’s managerial stint.
Another key player Neymar Jr is also not part of the Brazil squad for their match against Morocco. The Paris Saint-Germain superstar has also been out of action after sustaining an injury earlier this year.
Liverpool goalkeeper Allison Becker has also not made it to the Brazil squad for Morocco. It is unclear why the Liverpool goalkeeper was not chosen to be part of the Brazil squad for the upcoming friendly.
Meanwhile, Ramon Menezes has taken over as interim Brazil boss following Tite’s departure. He also serves as the manager of the Brazil U20 squad.
