Social media and reality star Kylie Jenner and her boyfriend, Travis Scott, face backlash for “climate crimes” following a recent Instagram post showcasing their private jets. The makeup mogul shared a black-and-white photo of “you wanna take mine or yours?” showing the couple embracing on an airport tarmac near their private jets.
Their four-year-old daughter Stormy Webster was also pictured in the photo and a Rolls Royce. Some followers deemed the photo “goals,” including members of Jenner’s family. Her mother, Kris Jenner, wrote “decisions, decisions.”
Some criticized Jenner and Scott in the comments for flaunting the couple’s his-and-hers private planes.
“Why do I have to limit my meat consumption and use paper straws while the 1% gets to pump tons of carbon into the atmosphere for a day trip to Palm Springs?” read one of the top comments on the post. “Your waste of gas emissions or mine,” read another of the more than 47,000 comments.
Another user commented: “Maybe take neither’s and reduce your carbon footprint.”
The derision carried over to Twitter, where user @emily_murname shared screenshots of a recent flight made by Jenner’s plane that was logged by @CelebJets, a bot account that tracks and tweets celebrity private air travel. Departing from Camarillo, California and arriving in Van Nuys, California, the flight has an estimated car travel time of 42 minutes, according to MapQuest’s RoutePlanner tool.
One Twitter user went as far as labelling Jenner a “full-time climate criminal.” Another tweeted Scott’s Astroworld Festival tragedy: “Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott need access to 2 private jets at a time in case they need to flee again if people get trampled to death.”
“We got 8 years to save the world and capitalism tells me I have to do everything I can to save the world but Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott have to pick what private jet they wanna take a 20-minute flight on,” another Twitter user wrote.
Jenner and Scott have yet to respond to the public criticism, and the post remains up as of Thursday afternoon. Jenner has since limited comments on the photo.
