Visoko (Bosnia)- On Wednesday, thousands flocked to a green valley in central Bosnia to witness the opening of the famous Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic regional tennis centre so that future generations can hone their skills.
Djokovic arrived in Bosnia just days after winning his seventh Wimbledon title, taking his grand slam tally to 21.
Djokovic played exhibition matches with players from the Balkans, such as Bosnian Aldin Skic, Slovenian Aljaz Bedene and Croatian Ivan Dodig, on the occasion of the centre’s opening.
Bosnian-born businessman Samir Osmanovic financed the new tennis centre built in Bosnia’s Pyramids Park near the town of Visoko.
Osmanovic said the mounds at Visoko were pyramids, which many archaeologists denounce as a hoax, and the Bosnian businessman said there was a possibility of a partnership with Djokovic at a later stage.
“The first step has been taken, and this is only the beginning,” Djokovic said.
Djokovic regularly visits the site of the pyramids, which Osmanovic transformed into a garden aimed at attracting visitors seeking a spiritual experience, and often meditates in its underground tunnels.
“For me, this is one of the most powerful energy centres on the planet,” Djokovic said after participating in several exhibition matches. “It fills me with the strength to meet new challenges in tennis and life.”
The fans were delighted to see him.
“He is a good man above all,” said Milica, who arrived with her husband from the northern town of Gradiska to see Djokovic.
“I wish there were more such positive people.”
