Xiaomi partners Leica for imagining technology could debut with Xiaomi 12 Ultra
Beijing (China)- Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has now announced a new partnership with Leica for mobile imaging technology. The collaboration will be seen with the company’s next-gen smartphones that might feature a Leica branding on the camera island.
Huawei and Leica ended a similar strategic partnership last year. Partnerships between smartphone makers and camera companies for improved imaging techniques have become a norm.
The latest, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has now announced a new partnership with Leica for the mobile imaging technology for its next-gen smartphones.
A collaboration between the two companies has been rumoured for a long time now.
“Xiaomi and Leica share the same ideas regarding mobile imaging, and they’re both eager to take mobile photography to the next level,” said Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said in a press release. “Xiaomi focuses on creating the ultimate user experience and has always hoped to explore the capabilities of smartphone photography to the extreme.
Xiaomi and Leica agree with each other’s pursuits and ideas” and their cooperation involves optical design as well as tuning aesthetic orientations,” he added.
In 2016, Huawei and Leica announced a long-term strategic partnership for smartphone technology. However, the partnership didn’t last very long and ended last year amid mounting troubles for Huawei, especially in the US.
Leica had been looking for a new partner since and looks like the company didn’t have too long beyond China. “It is an honour to announce the long-term strategic cooperation with Xiaomi. We are convinced that the first jointly developed imaging flagship smartphone makes the pioneering progress of both companies visible,” said Leica Camera AG CEO Matthias Harsch. “We will provide consumers in the field of mobile photography exceptional image quality, classic Leica aesthetics, unrestricted creativity, and will open a new era of mobile imaging,” he added.
