The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka has issued a clarification pertaining to the various queries on if it had halted issuing visas to Sri Lankans.
The Indian High Commission categorically denied that it or the Indian Consulates-General or the Assistant High Commission of India in Sri Lanka have stopped issuing visas.
In a statement on Twitter, the High Commission said that in the past few days, there were operational difficulties due to the inability of its Visa Wing staff, most of whom are Sri Lankan nationals, to attend office.
We are striving to return our functioning to normal levels soon, the Indian High Commission further said.
The diplomatic mission also assured that it remains committed to facilitating ease of travel for Sri Lankans to India.
“Sri Lankans are welcome in India just as Indians are in Sri Lanka,” the High Commission added.
The clarification was provided after several social media users had questioned if India had halted the issuing of visas to Sri Lankans.
Social media users had speculated that the move may have been taken due to unrest in the country.
