Fishermen from the North and East have engaged in a protest against the activities of Indian fishermen in Sri Lanka waters.
Hoisting black flags on their boats, Sri Lankan fishermen on hundreds of boats have set sail from Mullaitivu to Point Pedro as part of their protest.
Participating in the protest, Tamil National Alliance MP Shankiyan Rasamanickam pointed out that the livelihoods of fishermen in the North and East have been severely affected due to the illegal fishing activities of Indian fishermen in Sri Lanka waters.
He further said the protest was also being held against the inaction of the Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devananda in this regard.
