The trailer of Marvel’s Eternals was out, and it has sent fans into a state of frenzy. By the looks of the video, the film starts off after they left, in Avengers: Endgame, though the narrative is not. Before transposing oneself into the world of Eternals, what instantly garners attention from the trailer is that the makers have roped in a stellar cast with actress Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek in the new Superhero clan.
The film marks the first time Marvel Studios and Academy-award winning director Chloe Zhao have collaborated. Chloe Zhao’s recent critically acclaimed movie was Nomadland, had won the Academy Award for the Best Picture. The filmmaker had also won the award for the Best Director for the movie.
The origin of Eternals can be attributed to the Celestials, who had also created Deviants, the former’s antithesis. The video traces Eternals, who are sent to live on Earth, who at first sight is ‘marvell’ed by the magnitude and spellbinding beauty that they are engulfed with. After inhabiting the Earth surreptitiously for a while, they become the catalyst behind the genesis of civilisation on the planet.
The powerful and all-encompassing tribe of Eternals is being led by Ajak, essayed by the enigmatic Salma Hayek. On the other hand, Angelina Jolie is playing the part of Thena, who is a warrior at heart and blood, and this looks befitting for the actress, who has always enthralled the audience with her walloping performances completely soaked in action, thrill and gusto. Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Gemma Chan as Sersi, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari and Barry Keoghan as Druig make for the rest of the Eternals.
Together, they remain silent custodians of the Earth, nurture the very essence and sustain it with elixir of life itself on the planet. Ajak’s lingering voice indicates that they have never intervened in human activities, ‘until now’, which implies at the imminent threat to the existence of humanity posed by the opposing forces of Deviants. Kit Harington also appears in the trailer as Dane Whitman, who is a human warrior.
An icing on the cake in the trailer is the vibrant depiction of all things Bollywood, with vivacious hues galore, coupled with the glimpse of actor Harish Patel, who equally aces those Indian dance moves. The viewers could look forward to a few intense streaks of romance set ablaze by Sersi and Ikaris, who are shown entering wedlock, with the traditional Indian wedding revelries in the backdrop.
The trailer ends with a question as to which force will be touted to lead the Avengers after Captain Rogers and Iron Man are gone. Whether the film will provide answer to this question or there will be more awaiting the fans, one has to keep a close eyes on Eternals.
The visuals of life on Earth and how the world as we know it thrives, under the canopy of the Eternals is aesthetically appealing and magnificient.
Eternals is slated for a release on November 5.
