Flipkart expands online grocery services in India post-pandemic

BENGALURU (INDIA) – Walmart-owned In an effort to compete better with Amazon and Reliance, Flipkart has expanded it’s online groceries services in more Indian cities. The rapidly growing e-commerce market during the COVID-19 pandemic is considered as the reason behind the same.

In a statement released by the company, it has specified that the expansion has already begun with online grocery sales being made available to more than 50 Indian cities including big cities like Kolkata, Pune and Ahmedabad. Flipkart adds that it intends to reach over 70 locations in the next six months.”Grocery is the next big frontier for online shopping and is a key focus area for Flipkart to bring new customers online,” the Wallmart owned company added.

“Grocery continues to be one of the fastest-growing categories,” said Manish Kumar, senior vice president at Flipkart, adding that the company had seen increased demand for the service from smaller cities in 2020.

The Bengaluru-based firm said its grocery service had grown “exponentially” in the past year with people relying on online services to buy essential items during the lockdown period.
