LONDON (UK) – Police said on Friday they had to break up a wedding where almost 400 guests had gathered breaking coronavirus lockdown rules.
According to the strict rules introduced during the start of this year, weddings are only supposed to take place under “exceptional circumstances”. But police officers discovered four hundred people had gathered in a school in Stamford Hill, north London, following an alert.
The windows were covered to prevent people from seeing inside and the organiser of the event has to pay a fine of 10,000 pounds.
“This was a completely unacceptable breach of the law, which is very clearly in place to save lives and protect the NHS (National Health Service),” said Detective Chief Superintendent Marcus Barnett.
Despite the fact that the number of coronavirus cases has fallen from a record high of 70,000 on Jan. 8 to just below 40,000 in recent days, there are concerns that many people are flouting the rules.
A day earlier, interior minister Priti Patel warned those who broke lockdown curbs that they would be punished by police and announced a new 800 pound fine for those attending house parties.
