NEW YORK (US) – A day after Signal experienced technical difficulties after it dealt with a flood of new users who ditched WhatsApp following its controversial change in privacy terms, the application said on Saturday it had restored its services.
After a change in WhatsApp’s privacy terms, which require users to share their data with both Facebook Inc and Instagram, Signal has been inundated with new users.
As an aftereffect of the outage, Signal users might see errors in some chats, which will be rectified in the next update, said the firm in a Twitter message.
The error will not affect the security of the chat, said the firm.
The application is currently overseen by the non-profit Signal Foundation, which is based in Silicon Valley. The app was launched in February 2018 with Brian Acton, who co-founded WhatsApp before selling it to Facebook, providing initial funding of $50 million.
