HONG KONG (HONG KONG) – Media and publishing tycoon Jimmy Lai is remanded by Hong Kong’s top court, in custody until another bail hearing on Feb. 1.
The Court of Final Appeal’s ruling comes a week after Lai, one of Hong Kong’s most prominent democracy activists accused of colluding with foreign forces, was released. He was let out on a HK$10 million ($1.3 million) bail, coupled with extensive restrictions that included preventing him from using social media.
Lai, a critic of Beijing had been a frequent visitor to Washington, and is widely presumed to be a targeted, as part of the new legislation.
