WASHINGTON (US) – Washington is contemplating sanctions on at least a dozen Chinese firms over their alleged role in Beijing disqualifying elected opposition lawmakers in Hong Kong.
The sanctions are likely to target officials from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). This comes as President Donald Trump’s administration is increasing the pressure on Beijing during his final weeks in office.
According to sources, as many as 14 people, including officials of China’s parliament, or National People’s Congress, and members of the CCP, are likely to be targetted by the sanctions that include asset freezes and financial curbs.
They are also likely to include officials from Hong Kong as well as the mainland.
