KABUL (AFGHANISTAN) – Armed men traded gunfire with Afghan security forces on Kabul University’s campus after a blast in the area, leaving six injured, said government officials.
The identity of the assailants is yet to be found out. Meanwhile, the Taliban have denied any involvement in the attack.
“Gunshots still can be heard in the area but security forces have blocked it off,” said Ministry of Interior spokesman Tariq Arian. “We don’t know whether we are dealing with a coordinated attack or something else.” he said.
He said that several assailants had stormed the campus and gunfight was going on with security forces.
Health Ministry spokesman Akmal Samsor said at least six people were injured in the attack, including a student and professor.
“Almost all students have now left,” said Nahid, a student.
The country has been plagued by violence and the government and the Taliban have been engaged in discussions in Qatar to strike a peace deal allowing the US to send home its troops stationed in the country and end its longest war.
