LONDON (UK) – In what is seen as a bid to fight the coronavirus curbs imposed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage has decided to relaunch the outfit as an anti-lockdown party and it will be named Reform UK.
His new party will support a policy of focussed protection from the pandemic for only who are vulnerable. The rest of the pop will be left to develop herd immunity. This was made clear in an opinion piece written by Farage and party chairman Richard Tice in The Telegraph on Sunday.
They said documents seeking a change of name have been submitted to the Electoral Commission.
Farage formed the Brexit Party in early 2019. For years, he campaigned against membership in the bloc and it was responsible for the verdict of the 2016 referendum.
“We are showing the courage needed to take on consensus thinking and vested interests on Covid. But there are so many areas of public life that can be improved to benefit ordinary people. That is why we will campaign for Reform”, Farage and Tice wrote.
“We want to be known as the party of Reform. The name reflects the ambition: Reform UK”, they added.
On Sunday, the Conservative Party government placed England under a lockdown after the nation crossed 1 million COVID-19 cases. The health service is being threatened by a second wave of infections.
