LONDON (UK) – Mesut Ozil of Arsenal has extended support to the free school meals campaign of Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford by providing 1,400 free lunchtime meals for the rest of the week to London schools.
Rashford has spearheaded the campaign for the government to provide food vouchers during holidays to school children who normally receive free meals during the term if their parents or guardians receive welfare support.
Ozil has joined hands with Barnet Sunday Football League (BSFL), chef Stefan Peppert and German Chefs Catering in Knightsbridge to provide food to 12 schools in Barnet and its neighbouring areas.
Pictures of the meals were posted on Tuesday on Twitter by the BSFL and schools and Ozil’s logo featured on the boxes.
“We are very grateful to Mesut Ozil and Stefan Peppert for getting involved with our initiative, and the volunteers on the project who have worked tirelessly throughout,” a BSFL spokesperson said.
“We have raised over 3,000 pounds so far, with 1,400 meals per day prepared and delivered to schools.”
Ozil is not in good terms with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and has been excluded from the club’s Premier League and Europa League squads.
