WASHINGTON (US) – Although he is still confined to the White House where he is being treated for coronavirus, President Donald Trump planned more measures to give a shot in the arm to his election campaign.
The president is slated to appear in his first television interview after he announced last Friday that he had tested positive for coronavirus. Fox Business Network said the interview would go on air on Thursday after 8 am (1200 GMT).
After being discharged from a military hospital on Monday, Trump has been looking forward to hit the campaign trail. He called off talks with Congress for another round of stimulus measures for the strained economy and said in a video that his illness was “a blessing from God.”
Ahead of the presidential election, Trump is trailing his Democratic rival Joe Biden, according to national opinion polls. They also show that Biden has an advantae in crucial states.
Even though he contracted the virus, the president has sought to downplay its dangers and was censured by social media platforms for spreading misinformation about it.
“I think this was a blessing from God that I caught it. This was a blessing in disguise,” he said in a video that appeared on his Twitter handle on Wednesday, adding his use of an experimental medication from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc had allowed him to experience first-hand how effective it could be.
Trump pledged to make the treatment available free of cost. But he did not explain how it would be done and who would meet the cost of the treatment.
