Scotland to close many pubs, restaurants to stem spread of COVID-19

LONDON (UK) – Pubs and restaurants in five places in the central belt of Scotland would remain closed for 16 days from Friday to stem the spread of the pandemic, said First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on Wednesday.

In Scotland, the number of infections has been steadily climbing since mid-September and there were 1,054 new cases on Wednesday fuelled by infections in the central belt comprising Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Last month, pubs and restaurants in Scotland were told to close at 22.00 (21.00 GMT). There is also a ban on visiting households.
