BEIJING (CHINA) – China said on Wednesday that the United States should stop its baseless attacks and accusations against China. It accused US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of maliciously trying to taint the image of Beijing.
Pompeo on Tuesday visited Japan and urged deeper cooperation with Australia, India and Japan to confront China’s regional influence, which has been found to be growing.
The Chinese embassy in Japan said in a statement, “Pompeo has repeatedly fabricated lies about China and maliciously created political confrontation.”
“We once again urge the US to abandon its Cold War mentality and ideological prejudice, stop unprovoked accusations and attacks against China and treat relations with China in a constructive manner,” the embassy said.
Pompeo’s East Asia visit, his first in more than a year, comes at a time when tensions have worsened with China.
