MIAMI (US) – Soon after President Donald Trump returned to the White House three days after being in hospital where he was undergoing treatment for coronavirus, Democratic contender Joe Biden criticised him for downplaying the seriousness of the disease.
“I would hope that the president, having gone through what he went through – and I’m glad he seems to be coming along pretty well – would communicate the right lesson to the American people: Masks matter,” Biden said.
Shortly after leaving hospital, the president in a video exhorted Americans to “get out there” and not to be scared of the pandemic. Though he was wearing a mask when he left hospital, he took it off while entering the White House.
His medical team said he had not had a fever in 72 hours and exhibited normal blood oxygen levels.
He arrived at the White House in a helicopter and was seen walking up a flight of stairs after removing his face mask and posing for photographs, giving a thumbs-up at times and a salute too.
