BERLIN (GERMANY) – The Berlin hospital where Putin critic Alexei Navalny was undergoing treatment issued a statement on Wednesday which says he has been discharged. He was airlifted to Charite hospital last month after falling ill on board a domestic flight in Siberia, Russia, and was in a coma.
“The patient’s condition had improved sufficiently for him to be discharged from acute inpatient care,” read the statement.
“Based on the patient’s progress and current condition, the treating physicians believe that complete recovery is possible. However, it remains too early to gauge the potential long-term effects of his severe poisoning,” it added.
According to Berlin, tests conducted in Germany, France and Sweden have revealed that the critic was poisoned with a Novichok nerve agent and Western governments have sought an explanation from Russia.
However, Moscow has said that there is no evidence of such a crime being committed and refused to order a probe and has denied any involvement.
“The decision to make details of Mr. Navalny’s condition public was made in consultation with the patient and his wife,” the hospital said.
