SEOUL (SOUTH KOREA) – Seoul on Sunday extended the level 2 social distancing norms for another week until Sept. 27, limiting indoor gatherings to less than 50 and outdoor to below 100. It may also tighten curbs for the Chuseok holiday as it is the time when people traditionally visit their relatives and elders in the family.
Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said the new curbs are essential ahead of the holiday as “cases with untraceable origins are steadily increasing and fewer tests being carried out on weekends means we should be on high alert.”
The social distancing norms for the holidays will be announced this week.
As of Saturday midnight, the country recorded 82 new coronavirus cases, the lowest daily count since the middle of August, said the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Of the total cases, 72 were locally transmitted and the national tally is 22,975, with 383 fatalities.
