LONDON (UK) – US President Donald Trump has offered to grant pardon to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange if he provides the source for the hacking of Democratic National Committee emails before the 2016 presidential poll, a London court was told on Friday.
His lawyer Jennifer Robinson said she observed a meeting where former Republican US Representative Dana Rohrabacher and Charles Johnson, an associate with closes ties to Trump campaign, came out with the offer of the president.
“The proposal put forward by Congressman Rohrabacher was that Mr. Assange identify the source for the 2016 election publications in return for some form of pardon,” Robinson said in a witness statement.
Assange, 49, who was born in Australia, has moved court to stop being extradited to the US where he faces charges of conspiracy to hack government computer networks and violation of an espionage law over the release of confidential cables in 2010-2011.
