GENEVA (SWITZERLAND) – Belarus opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, in a speech at the UN Human Rights Council on Friday, demanded that the authorities of the country end violence against protesters so as to set up a free and fair presidential election.
Tsikhanouskaya was forced to leave her homeland for Lithuania because of the police clampdown in Belarus after the August 9 presidential election.
Speaking at the same event, Yury Ambrazevih, Belarus ambassador to the UN in Geneva, said it is not justifiable to expect the body to interfere in a country’s election.
