BERLIN (GERMANY) – Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny is slowly recovering, said the Der Spiegel magazine on Thursday. Navalny is undergoing treatment in a Berlin hospital after falling ill on a Russian domestic flight last month. He was later diagnosed to have been poisoned with a Soviet-era nerve agent Novichok.
Germany says the critic is a victim of an assassination bid and sought an explanation from Russia. However, Moscow says that there is no evidence that Navalny, 44, was poisoned.
The magazine says that police protection for the Kremlin critic has been enhanced as there could be more visitors now that his condition has improved.
“Der Spiegel and Bellingcat understand that Navalny can speak again and can likely remember details about his collapse,” the magazine report said. “His statements could be dangerous for people behind the attack.”
Navalny’s spokeswoman, Kira Yarmysh, said on Twitter that “the story is exaggerated and contains many factual inaccuracies”.
