NEW YORK (US) – Former champion Naomi Osaka was firing on all cylinders on Sunday when she fought her way into the quarter-finals of the US Open trouncing Anett Kontaveit 6-3 6-4.
In what could be termed a battle of baseline blasters, the fourth seed had the upper hand in firepower over 14th seed Kontaveit at Arthur Ashe stadium which was bereft of spectators.
Kontaveit did not give up easily as she scored 5-4 in the second set. But she bowed out netting a forehand.
Because of a hamstring injury, Osaka’s left thigh was heavily strapped. However, that did not come in the way of her performance and she is set to lock horns with unseeded American Shelby Rogers.
