LONDON (UK) – To help the economy to recover from the battering of the pandemic, the government will urge people to return to their offices and workplaces where it is safe to do so, said transport minister Grant Shapps on Friday.
“Our central message is pretty straightforward: we are saying to people it is now safe to return to work,” he said.
The Telegraph reported that Prime Minister Boris Johnson is slated to roll out a campaign praising the virtues of returning to the workplace and providing assurance that it is a safe place. There will also be an online tool to help people avoid the most crowded trains and buses.
The Centre for Cities figures revealed only 17% of workers in cities returned to their workplace early this month. This shows the challenge facing the Conservative Party government in steering the country from the lockdown.
Based on mobile phone signals, the data showed there was not much increase in the number of workers returning to city centres between late June and Aug. 3.
Last month, the prime minister urged people who were telecommuting to return to their workplaces to help the economy recover.
