TOKYO (JAPAN) – Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s office said he is slated to address the media on Friday at 5 pm (0800 GMT). This comes amid growing concerns about his health as he had two hospital visits in a week.
Although members of the ruling party said his health is fine, there are concerns whether he will be able to continue in office till his tenure ends in September next year as one of the hospital consultations went on for eight hours.
Abe on Monday broke the record of longest consecutive tenure as premier set by his great-uncle Eisaku Sato half a century ago.
According to sources, Abe will consult doctors ahead of his media address.
Local media said Abe will speak on his health and discuss the handling of the pandemic.
He is also scheduled to attend a meeting of the government’s coronavirus response headquarters before addressing the media.
