BANGKOK (THAILAND) – Police in Thailand on Wednesday arrested two pro-democracy student protest leaders for participating in rallies. They would be charged with sedition.
Tattep Ruangprapaikitseree of the Free Youth Group and his partner Panumas Singprom were taken behind bars at their residence in Nonthaburi province.
“We got arrested with many charges, but the most severe one is article 116,” Tattep told.
A total of 15 people were charged with regard to a July 18 rally for violating internal security laws and an emergency measures, as part of the lockdown.
Thai police on Tuesday arrested human rights lawyer Anon Nampa for the third time, who was later released on bail.
Student leaders, rappers and activists were arrested for participating in demonstrations. However, they have not been charged under the ‘lese majeste’ law.
Those arrested so far have all been released on bail.
