WISCONSIN (US) – The state of Wisconsin witnessed protests after police shot an unarmed Black man multiples times in the back in Kenosha, said the Governor. This prompted authorities to impose a curfew.
Governor Tony Evers said the victim is Jacob Blake who is in a serious condition in hospital.
Video footage on social media reveals a man walking towards a car accompanied by two policemen and one of them shooting him as he opens the door.
Soon after the incident on Sunday, crowds gathered on the spot to protest and multiple fire outbreaks were reported.
Footage on social media showed around 100,000 people marching in the city and throwing bricks and Molotov cocktails at police officers.
The incident took place when police officers responded to a “domestic incident”. According to Kenosha police department, the victim was taken to hospital immediately.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice said on Monday that those responsible for opening fire were placed on administrative leave.
