PORTLAND (US) – A top lawmaker on Tuesday urged the Department of Justice to initiate legal proceedings against a group of people caught on camera beating and kicking a man who crashed his truck near Black Lives Matter protests in Portland.

Senator Lindsey Graham urged the department to initiate proceedings agains a 25-year-old man believed to have taken part in the attack on Sunday night.

“This shocking attack by a mob against a young man in the streets of Portland is beyond the pale,” said Graham, who is close to president Donald Trump.

The attack comes in the wake of escalating tensions between right and left wing protesters. For three months after the death of George Floyd, downtown Portland has witnessed protests each night.

According to the police Marquis Love, 25, is wanted for the attack.

Camera footage reveals a mob pulling a young man from his truck which crashed near the federal courthouse. He was later identified as Adam Haner.

Police said the mob later assaulted him by punching and kicking him. He collapsed on the ground with his head bleeding. He was later taken to hospital and has since been released.
