PARIS (FRANCE) – In what appears to be a major shake-up on Wednesday, four-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome and 2018 winner Geraint Thomas have not been included in the Ineos Grenadiers line up for the 2020 edition.
Froome and Thomas of the UK were not up to the mark in terms of performance in the Criterium du Dauphine, which is seen as a yardstick of form ahead of the tour, which begins on August 29 in Nice.
Team manager Dave Brailsford roped in 2019 Giro d’Italia champion Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz to help Colombian Egan Bernal retain his title.
“Egan will once again target the yellow jersey in France and we are very excited to give last year’s Giro winner, Richard Carapaz, his debut in this year’s Tour also,” Brailsford said.
Brailsford’s decision places the two winners ahead of Froome and Thomas.
