MANILA (PHILLIPPINES) – Philippine scientists set out on Wednesday for meeting those representing the Russian research facility that developed a vaccine for coronavirus. They would also discuss possible participation in clinical trials so as to access its research data.
To help rid public of fears about its safety, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has offered to be “injected in public” with the COVID-19 vaccine approved by Russia.
Health Undersecretary Rosario Vergeire said Philippine experts, who would be meeting representatives of Gamaleya, the state research facility to discuss,would request a “complete dossier” on the vaccine.
She told, “We will see if the allegations are true. That is why we were talking with them to understand this vaccine.”
The Philippines has recorded highest number of coronavirus cases in Asia, which rose to 143,749 on Wednesday.
In July, Duterte also urged his Chinese counterpart to put the Philippines on its priority list, if it develops a vaccine, even as concerns arise about the availability of the same for developing countries.
